Brittany K. Byrd
Brittany K. Byrd is an attorney and Executive Director at GEM. Combining her passion to help others with her experience as the daughter of an incarcerated mother, Brittany tirelessly ensures Girls Embracing Mothers empowers young girls with mothers in prison. Before joining GEM, Brittany was Associate General Counsel at ORIX USA Corporation. Brittany is a 2011 graduate of Southern Methodist University's Dedman School of Law. During law school Brittany held judicial internships with the Honorable Nancy F. Atlas of the United States District Court for the Southern District of Texas and the Honorable Reneé H. Toliver of the United States District Court for the Northern District of Texas. Prior to her legal career, she worked for PricewaterhouseCoopers, LLP, as an Audit Associate and earned her license as a Certified Public Accountant. Brittany received a B.B.A. and M.S. in Accounting from the University of Texas at Arlington.
In 2013 Brittany was named as a "National Outstanding Young Lawyer Finalist" by the American Bar Association’s Young Lawyer Division, "Outstanding Young Lawyer of Texas" by the Texas Young Lawyers Association and "Outstanding Young Lawyer of Dallas" by the Dallas Association of Young Lawyers for her professionalism, commitment to serving the community through Girls Embracing Mothers and dedication to helping others through her pro bono work. The Dallas Foundation also named Brittany as one of Dallas’s top five community volunteers under the age of 40 for her extraordinary devotion to Girls Embracing Mothers.
